Green Bean Casserole

1 1/2 pounds green beans (fresh or frozen)

2 TBSP butter

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 TBSP flour

3/4 cup chicken broth or stock

1 1/4 cup half n half

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (dash)

1 small package of mushrooms - sliced

1 cup fried onion


Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Grease 8" baking dish or pie pan. Cook green beans. If using fresh bean, boil beans in water for 4 minutes. Drain and place in the baking dish. If using frozen beans, saute for 3 minutes and place in the baking dish. Melt butter in a sauce pan, add garlic and stir for 30 seconds. Whisk in flour until smooth. Cook for 45 seconds to 1 minute (constantly stirring). Add milk, chicken stock, and stir until sauce thickens. This step will take about 10 minutes. Add salt, pepper, and mushrooms. Stir to combine. Pour mixture over green beans and sprinkle with onions. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving.
